7.34pm Today felt much milder than yesterday, even indoors felt warmer. By late afternoon the snow had mostly melted and having done everything needful I went out and filled more leaf bags. It always looks as though there will be far more leaves than I could ever use and there are not enough. I shall have to go and scrouge some. The David Austin Roses are wrapped in hessian and have leafbags around them, The Generous Gardener got 4 bags as it is at the high end of the East 2 bed and I managed to bend the tall stem it grew after the fall rain so it is tucked down inside the hessian; I found another flower on the salvia beside the rose. Graham Thomas was not so lucky as its tall sprout broke when I tried to tuck it down so I cut it off at the bend; it has three bags mainly to protect it from the snowblower and from the waves of snow created when chunks come thundering off the roof.

I need to put protection around the other roses, and the Mandarin honeysuckle and the azalea, which has buds showing colour, need wrapping. Unlike the other honeysuckles the Mandarin has lost all its leaves already. Also the remaining planters need emptying, I will probably use the contents to protect some of the low growing roses. There is also a bit of trimming off old leaves still to be done, and taking down the tipod that the Emilia Platter clematis grew up this summer.

I will tackle the remaining jobs tomorrow morning if it is still dry. Rain and snow is forecast for the rest of the week and I must get the garden sorted before I leave for the UK because we could be deep in snow by the time I get back given our current weather. The rain gauge had just over 2" in it when I emptied it out this evening (it has been taken up and put away) and the weather office said that we had 1.9cm precipitation yesterday.

Photos: Kevin's Michaelmas Daisies in the weed pot; Camillia 'April Remembered' now has 6 flowers and more fat buds beginning to colour; Adam and Even and the Angel with the Flaming Sword below the Camillia and looking very much at home, actually they are there mainly to stop the cat chewing up Clematis Joe (the serrated leafed plant around Eve's feet) and leaping into the pot on her way to the windowsill.
