Dug out twenty-nine clumps today. They are stored in plastic garbage bags until tomorrow, when I will divide them. I don’t think I’ve ever had this many tubers in one year before, and am feeling worried that I won’t get them done before they start to shrivel!

Dahlia pinnata What happened to “going dormant”? Wild West has overwintered in its spot for three years, so I did not dig it up. |

Day 532
Dahlia pinnata To my surprise, there are some nice tubers on this clump. It was crowded and shaded in its spot, and I expected worse. |
Dahlia pinnata These have overwintered for two years, but they weren’t doing well, so I dug them out. |
Day 532
Dahlia pinnata This plant overwintered last year. It had a nice strong stalk and good tubers, but didn’t flower this year. |
Day 532
Dahlia pinnata These two clumps overwintered last year. They didn’t do well at all— they have one or two small tubers each topped by a spindly stem. |
Day 131
Dahlia pinnata Nice tuber growth on this one. I bought it as a plant, and think it was started as a cutting. It flowered well. |

Day 131
Dahlia pinnata Unlike the others in this bed that I bought as plants, this one didn’t flower this year. Tubers are strong, though… hopefully next year. |
Day 131
Dahlia pinnata This one and Vassio Meggos were both purchased as plants and placed in the same bed, but they didn’t do as well as Worton Blue Streak et al. |
Day 547
Dahlia pinnata Huge cluster of tubers! This one overwintered last year and had tons of flowers all summer. |
Day 161
Dahlia pinnata The two plants with pinkish flowers have huge clumps. The one with nice creamy flowers has a small clump. It figures! |
Day 161
Dahlia pinnata This overwintered last year, flowered well all summer, and produced a large, healthy tuber clump. |
Day 161
Dahlia pinnata Healthy tubers! The shovel bit into some of them a little, but I think they’ll be fine. |
Day 161
Dahlia pinnata The Karma dahlias are patented, so I wasn’t planning on dividing. Turns out the tubers are so tiny that it wouldn’t have been worth trying. |
Day 161
Dahlia pinnata This one didn’t flower this year, but the tubers look healthy, so yay! |
Day 161
Dahlia pinnata I really liked this one this year, and luckily it produced some nice tubers for division. |
Day 542
Dahlia pinnata This one overwintered last year. Notably large, healthy clump. |
Day 532
Dahlia pinnata This one overwintered last year and didn’t flower this year. The tuber clump is healthy, though. |

Wow, that’s a lot of Dahlias and tubers. Good luck with all those. I’ve never been able to keep the tubers from going to mush over the winter, so I admire anyone who can.
