Ideally, I probably would've put the garlic in a month ago, but I just managed to make space for it over the last week. The garlic went in today. It was hard finding places to squeeze it all in, but it's all in somewhere.

Having followed Katxena's mulch thread, I was swayed by puu's objections to going mulchless--I wouldn't want to be responsible for raising his blood pressure and forcing him to cut back on miso. So I mulched all the bare bits of garden with longbean vines, which I had in sufficient supply to cover all the bare ground with a sufficiently thick layer to do some good. I didn't mulch the gooseberries or the rose with them, because the vines have a tendency to tangle things and I didn't want to accidentally break branches of already small and spindly woody plants. If I'm very lucky, I'll be able to scrape together enough leaves from the dogwoods to mulch the gooseberries and the rose. But they haven't started losing leaves yet, so all I can do is wait.
