I harvested some beautiful salad greens a few minutes ago, including my fall Tokyo bekana. I'm really glad to have this beautiful and tasty green in my salad bowl again. It's not only good by itself, but it also balances the other brassicas nicely. I also harvested some really crunchy baby chards.

I also harvested more mizspoona. I cannot overstate how much I like this salad green. It's crunchy, zippy, sweet and not bitter or hot -- and best of all, it produces like a workhorse. I planted a small patch of it on May 3, and it is still energetically growing leaves for me. In the past 5 months, I've probably taken 50 or more harvests from it AND at least 4 times I've cut it back to nothing because the leaves got too big for salad. Each time it came back. And best of all, it never bolted, at least not seriously. It is well worth space in the garden.

It's a cross of mizuna and tatsoi that isn't quite stable -- the leaf forms are somewhat diverse, and every now and then a plant turned hairy or sent up a flower stalk. I just removed those plants. It's wonderful.
