Yesterday I said to my dad that I hoped these apples would ripen before I had to lose my garden. He said, "I hope not. I'll buy you some apples if it comes to that." He feels the way I prioritize plant stuff during this sell/move is messed up. He worked very hard in the yard today trying to bushwack stuff. I gave up hope that any plants would be spared but I didn't think about the fruit.

I came out to water tonight to find 3/4 of the apples that were on the tree, probably only weeks to a month short of being ripe, were on the ground. He didn't even bother bringing them in to me. Just left them to rot on the ground.

(It's a saga how I got to this point, but the setting is that the house I co-own with my parents has to be sold and I have to move. I was getting my head around losing my garden. I hadn't realized I was expected to watch it be destroyed even before I left. And participate in its destruction.)
