First melon ripe. It smelled so strong. It sat in the kitchen for a day, and the smell was so much I thought it might be rotting. It wasn't.

The size was pretty good. A biggish serving for two. We had a little left over, but we were pretty full from dinner too.

The taste, well, I can't really complain. It was very sweet, and an excellent example of cantelope, but it didn't have anything extra, like homegrown tomatoes have that something extra, it was just a good melon.

So, I don't know, I may try something else next year. It did well, but I can imagine something better.

Also, while it was vigorous and filled the trellis well, the leaves are starting to get mildewey and not look so healthy.

On the upside, it's not affecting the fruit. Also, unlike my fears, the fruit don't fall off the stems when ripe, even though they're hanging. One of them cracked a little at the top, but I don't think it will effect the meat inside. It's pretty easy to tell when they're ripe too - they blush yellow. Oh, yeah, and they certainly do smell then too, if you can't see the yellow or something.

(p.s. two more ripe a little less than a week later)
