Well, technically these aren't SUPPOSED to be mini onions, but they sure are appearing to be just that. This is my first attempt at growing my own onions. So far, I haven't seen tremendous results. I'll give the other ones another week. The tops are fading and falling over and that's the sign they're reaching maturity, or so I read.

The small ones will be tasty in one small salad, but I was hoping for more. I think the main reason is the soil we used to fill the raised bed, was old top soil and once it settled into the bed and we had all of that rain, it became so compact it was like cement. I certainly don't think it ever dried out until probably the last couple of weeks. Oh, well! Grow and learn right?

I may try to incorporate some of my compost into the bed once I pull the onions and plant some swiss chard and spinach.
