Today we were at Perth City Farm (http://www.cityfarmperth.org.au/) for day three of our Permaculture Design Course.

We covered:
* stacking including time stacking (Masanobu Fukuoka)":
* guilds and guild planting":
* uses of plants":
* herbs (particular situations, colour, foliage, themes)":
* trees and tree crops":
* integrated pest management":
* use of herbs for pest control":
* companion planting":

Practical aspects of the day involved taking some cuttings (softwood and hardwood, and dividing) to pot up some more plants for City Farm. We also got to take some pieces away. I brought home:

* lemongrass":
" comfrey":
* vetiver grass":
* azolla"

The most interesting plant for me was azolla. I have already 'planted' mine in the buried toilet cistern that filled up with water from the spring rain. I'm also thinking of putting it in my two bird baths. I like the idea that it is a 'super plant' and will keep any mozzies at bay from laying eggs in still water AND a living fertiliser.
