Yesterday I finished the Wagon Wheel succession planting, I now have 5 lovely worked patches with seeds in them, and sure enough not an hour after I was done the squirrels had started to dig. So DH and I took the chickenwire fence from the Serpentine, where it wasn't really needed anymore, and created a barrier around the new plantings in the Wagon Wheel.

This morning I watched as a squirrel checked the entire perimeter, look for a way in. A couple of times it stood up on it's little hind paws and leaned against the fence. Made me really glad I hadn't followed DH's advice to just use "a couple of stakes", rather than the wire fencing as a support. It appears to be working, because there are no new dig marks this morning.

At any rate, it was hilarious. The little thing just went round and round, but couldn't get in. Tried to get a picture, but I was afraid if I got too close it would run away.
