I had almost talked myself out of making the garden this year. After all, I'm travelling pretty extensively this summer, and sadly, I haven't taught the dogs to water the beds yet. (Don't think I haven't tried. They complain about Opposable Thumb Issues.)

However, after heading to a local gardening store for something entirely unrelated, somehow I came home with two Big Boy tomato plants, a Roma tomato bush, four kinds of hot peppers, one green pepper variety, cilantro, italian parsley, anise hyssop, spearmint....

I should know better than to walk into one of those places with a credit card.

I'm still putting them in beds and pots (the beds are a story for another day, but involve such recycling/trailerpark goodness as concrete cinderblocks and purchased topsoil since my yard is largely ceramic.), but I'm again bitten with the bug.

And I got a crash course in using tomato cages after nearly putting out my own eye.

There is a reason my nickname was Grace for a while when I was growing up.

And I should look into how hard it is to grow garlic while I'm at it. I've got most of a really good pasta sauce putting down roots back there; might as well go whole-hog, so to speak.

Speaking of whole-hog; if I end up staying here in Iowa (which I'm still hoping beyond hope that I *don't*), I'm seriously contemplating chickens. And learning to make my own cheese.

Clearly, I have Martha Stewart Delusions(tm).
