Wow, has it really been two weeks?

Last weekend I potted up a bunch of the baby plants in the stage 1 baby plant nursery to the stage 2 juvenile plant nursery (aka a plastic tub that's not big enough to hold all the pots). Some of the Dixie cup pots the baby plants were in were slimy - overwatering possibly. "That can't be good," I thought. However, not all of the baby plants got repotted due to time constraints. The plants that got repotted are doing much _much_ better than those that weren't. Those that weren't look pretty bad. I really have to get out there tomorrow and do the rest. I'm such a bad plant mommy!

The successful repots (pot-ups?) were: 1 (rudbeckia), 2 (Shasta daisy x 2), 3, (salmon yarrow) 6 (large gold coreopsis), 7 (Mexican hat), 8 (Alaska Shasta daisy), 11 (black-eyed susan), 12 (Shasta daisy), 13 (prairie coneflower?), 14 (lemon gem marigold), French chervil, Chinese lantern, Peruvian goldenberry, and perennial black-eyed susan. The condition of all range from "relatively good" to "awesome". They are mostly in 2" pots (though a few are in 4" because I ran out of the 2") and in a well-drained soil mix of 2 parts composted pine bark to 1 part perlite to 1 part potting soil.

One Dixie cup each of stevia, blue borage, purple coneflower, and indian blanket flower never sprouted so I'm tossing them. That's it for the blue borage seeds - I had 0% luck with them.

The Chinese yellow cucumber and the lemon squash both were getting pretty large for their 4" pots. I would say they might rival nursery starts that you see this time of the year. I cleared out some of the spring onions and chives I had relocated from a window box to the big tomato planter on the side of the balcony that is adjacent to my neighbor's balcony (they are joined - annoys the crap out of me, and I try to do anything that will create a division because I don't like sharing my personal space, bah) and planted them (the cuke and squash) there. I had initially moved the onions because they were in a small windowbox and not doing particularly well, and I needed the space for something else. I figures they could either sink or swim. Swim they did, swimmingly (haha), and they really thrived. The problem with that location though is that it is accessible to my cats, and I have one cat that eats anything green. The tall blades were so long they bent over and were completely reachable by said cat. Not good. In addition, there are some morning glory seeds in that bin that only recently decided to germinate (maybe it was too cold previously?) and the MG were bent on strangling the onion blades. I've got the MG trained to go up the trellis now (mostly, they will have to be kept in check) but the onions and chives had to come out eventually because it was getting tiresome keeping an eye on the cats every second that they were out there. They will garnish a dish nicely in the next day or two.

Let's see, what else is new? The tomatillos and currant tomatoes really need to be potted up soon - that might happen tomorrow. The tomatillos are going to share a single tomato cage in the big tomato bin and they are going to LIKE it damnit, because there's no room for 2 cages. Well, there might be, but I don't want to give up that space. I will be ruthless if necessary. (Famous last words.) I think I might move my big, old clump of parsley to that bin as well and free up a pot. It has been trying to bolt lately but I haven't let it. It either will really like the larger space, or it will continue to try to bolt. Either outcome is fine - I have more parsley in one of the square roma planters from last year.

Still fertilizing most days with Bonsai Pro and once a week with the vile fish emulsion, though last week I fertilized twice. I don't know why I felt I needed to, I just did.

There's more I know, but I'll save some for tomorrow.
