Yep, that’s right, I’m guessing I’m about halfway done the initial planting. Maybe a little less. I did the first and second veggie gardens today, worked in all my compost, sowed my seeds, and transplanted a few more plants. My back hurts, my wrists really hurt (there’s a new one – I blame too much knitting, it’s given me bum wrists now), but there’s more work to be done tomorrow – namely, digging in the rest of the compost into the front garden, and planting all of THOSE transplants, which are by far, most of my transplants. There’s at least 100 of them.
I also found myself perusing the tomatoes while picking up said compost today, and was pleased to see some ‘Moskvich’ and ‘Cherokee Purple’ tomatoes. I thought, what the hell, I know I have tons of room this year, I’m going to get them!
And so I did.
Tomorrow I make the big final push, and I’ll hopefully get all the compost dug in in the front yard and get everything planted. I WILL do that tomorrow.
But first, a few plants to say goodbye to:
Thyme – oh how I loved thee. For some reason, you didn’t make it through the winter in your pot. That’s okay though, I have tons more.
Sage – You didn’t make it through your pot either. What’s with that?
But I must say a happy hello to my ‘Oranges & Lemons’ Gaillardia. I thought it had died, so I dug it up, only to find some healthy young shoots popping up, WEEKS after all my other perennials had started to grow. Well, at least it’s alive!
Also, my Tri-Coloured Sage, which isn’t supposed to be a perennial in this climate, in fact survived through the winter and is now growing healthy new leaves – and lots of them! I guess I didn’t need to buy that new sage start this year. Oh well, can never have too much sage!
I didn’t have the energy to take any pictures today, hopefully I will tomorrow, but failing that, the day after.
B. proclaimed today that my spaces now in fact look like gardens (rather then bare patches of lawn – I added the last bit).

That’s alot of planting! I know all about being half done, although, if I am correct, I am now about 3/4 of the way done. I hope to get the rest of my stuff in this week. I have to say that I was surprised to hear that you gaillardia came back. I did not know that it did that. This is my first year planting it, and I have 2 different kinds.
Question- When it sprouts, are the sprout leaves long and slender? I think that mine has started to sprout, but am not sure.

To tell you the truth – my little bits of new growth are still in the shoot stage, but they should resemble the gaillardia leaves, which yes, are long and slender. You can always dig around the base of the dried up dead bits of the plant from last year and take a look. If the shoots/leaves are coming from the same root ball, that’s your gaillardia. I know we have hawkweed growing around here like crazy which is quite similar to gaillardia leaves, so don’t let those fool you (they’re usually fuzzy though with darker leaves, so you can usually tell the difference).

Mine don’t have a noticeable root ball yet. :) I planted them as seed. They are just starting to sprout. :)

Ah, seed! Well then, yes, they do have a longish thinner leaf.
