Tomato Cage Trellis!
Wednesday, 13 May 09 Overcast 17°C / 63°F
I potted up/moved out my belotti into one of the urns, today. I decided to try using tomato cages as a trellis for it climb up. (saw the idea somewhere, but I forget where now!) I used two stuck together and planted them upside down. I tried to bend the leg ends into decorative curls … but it was too hard to and the legs weren’t all even in length so it looked super-goofy!
I’ll look for some sort of final to put on top, but for now I just tied the legs all together with wire. It won’t be long before it’s all covered, so maybe a finial doesn’t matter anyway.
So far this seems like a great use for those old tomato cages … I have a manevilla and bougainvillea to go out as well and I think I might just do the same thing with them.
Uploading the picture made me realize that I should add some trailing plants around the edge of the pot … hmmmm …
