I thinned my lettuces and radishes yesterday, but I still think they may be too closely planted. It is really hard for me to pull out perfectly healthy plants, even though I know it's what's best for those remaining. Now I'm thinking I should really be a French Intensive gardener.

Instead, I'm doing the exact opposite in the newer addition to the veggie garden. Instead of double digging, I'm trying no digging there. I've aerated the soil with a pitch fork several times and added leaf mold just to the top layer last fall. This past weekend I put a thick layer of "Bumper Crop" soil builder on top as well. Probably should have done that earlier, but I'm a weekend gardener until June and there is only so much one can do in a weekend when life is happening. The pic on the end is the new section with newly added Bumper Crop.

I added rainbow colored spiral supports for my peas that are up and coming. You're supposed to put the supports together and have about 5 foot tall spirals (these were originally made for tomatoes) but I know my peas won't get that tall so I spread them all out. I think they look really pretty. My mother -in-law loves them.
