0 2009-04-28T01:39:02Z false So, I've been travelling a lot this winter and spring. The good part is, I'm having tons of fun, the bad part is I'm gone so much everything at home is suffering a bit. I am VERY far behind on getting anything done in the vegetable garden this year. All my yard time has been spent weeding and watering. Tonight I had time after work and decided I really needed to tackle getting the pots cleaned up and refilled with potting soil. I know I could make my own, but so far I've been using store bought and that came to a lot of money last year. So, I decided to try an experiment this year and reuse some of last year's potting soil. I'm going through and pulling out the old roots, then mixing the new soil with the old soil. I've grown some flowers in the same pot for several years without changing the soil and have done the same in my herb barrel, so I'm hoping it works for the tomatoes as well! I made a late night run to Lowes to buy some 'Husky Cherry Red' plants and got them planted tonight by the light of a Coleman lantern. I'm sending mom to Country Boys tomorrow to buy the bulk of my veggies. I still have some more pots to work on refilling with soil, but I'm about 1/2 of the way there. I also FINALLY started some 'Black Pineapple' tomato seeds after deciding I really can't live without them. My plan for the veggie garden so far is: 2 'Early Girl' tomatos 2 'Roma' tomatoes 2 'Husky Cherry Red' tomatoes 1 'German Pink' tomato 1 'Cherokee Purple' tomato ?? 'Black Pineapple' tomatoes 1 pot 'Lemon' cucumbers 1 Jalapeno pepper 1 'Thai Hot' pepper multiple pot of bush beans I'm still undecided about giving bell peppers another go.
