Sunflower Wrap Up

Thursday, 13 Sep 07

These sunflowers were a total whim planting. I didn’t think you could get a sunflower to bloom in a pot—and small pots at that!

But we did! The seed packet was mixed, so I’m not sure what kind of sunflowers they were exactly.

My son planted three and we got three blooms. They bloomed the end of June/early July and reached about waist-high on me (I’m 5’2").

They are quite hardy as well. One pot kept knocking down each time the wind blew, but the sunflower perservered! Next year it would probably be best to stake them to the stair railing.

Seeds were harvested from the flowers for next year’s planting.
