0 2008-12-09T14:16:52Z false Three big handfuls of Purple King beans this week, for a running total of 4.5 handfuls of beans. These are producing lots and lots- whenever I harvest there are plenty more still developing on the plants, and loads of flowers as well. I occasionally miss some and they grow huge and fat before I harvest them- they still taste good, though. I'm getting enough that I'm wondering if I will have to put some thought into the idea of preserving them. A few of the vines have started snaking through the fence over to the neighbour's yard, and some have now wound around the banister of their deck staircase and are heading for the stars. This is quite sweet to see, but I'm worried that if the neighbours don't pick the beans they'll mature and the vine will stop producing. I found a big cluster of very developed ones on the other side of the fence (harvesting them involved standing on tiptoe on a chair and reaching while trying not to squash the tomato plant or the strawberry plant that were in my way). I may have to speak to the neighbours and convince them that those funny purple pods really are food, and that it would be a great favour to me if they could pick & eat them.
