Those ‘cones’ in the last last photo are gumnuts, the woody bits formed after a Eucalypt flowers. They are very prominent in Australian popular culture- there are characters called Snugglepot & Cuddlepie who are ‘gumnut babies’, and wear gumnuts as hats.
