Odd things in Oz Part 2

Saturday, 06 Dec 08 Overcast 25°C / 77°F

[pic 1] Big mushrooms at the Victoria Market. Ok, maybe that’s not so wierd.
[pic 2] Big furry flowers.
[pic 3] Found an Echidna in the wild.
[pic 4] Solid rain. My first time to see hail.
[pic 5] Pot shaped cones?

Those ‘cones’ in the last last photo are gumnuts, the woody bits formed after a Eucalypt flowers. They are very prominent in Australian popular culture- there are characters called Snugglepot & Cuddlepie who are ‘gumnut babies’, and wear gumnuts as hats.

Those characters sound adorable. After a week I was told an insect crawled out of the gumnuts I left in my sisters kitchen. She was so horrified lol.
