0 2008-10-27T23:46:01Z false A week ago we picked up three Amaryllis bulbs at the nursery. I've always wanted to grow them for the holidays and since we're hosting DH's family this year and we don't have room for a tree this was the year. I just got them planted today as I had to get planters. I'm hoping I'm not too late to have Christmas blooms. We'll see. I mixed 50/50 potting soil and sand as the handout from the nursery said to do. I'm a little disturbed by the direstions to "water well" and then not water again until shoots appear. It's so dry here and even more so with the heat on and then with so much sand in the mix I can't imagine it staying moist until shoots appear. Especially when it said to wait 2 weeks and if nothing apply bottom heat. I know in 2 weeks those pots will be bone dry. So, I'm crossing my fingers. Of course I wanted the more expensive bulbs too. I don't suppose that was the wisest move when I don't have any experience. Ooops!
