You're supposed to harvest when the strawberry is all ripe and firm. If it's soft then it's overripe. I didn't check one of them too carefully so it was a bit unripe. Had one and even though these strawberries so so much smaller than the supermarket ones, it was yummy! Probably a combination of the brain's prejudice and the fact that it's freshly picked.
