<description>After last year's tomatoes growing so much that they broke even the large cages and/or having to tie the cages to the fence to actually hold the plant upright we went with a different approach for supporting the tomatoes this year - tee pees. Nothing terribly new or exciting about the concept. But, it is especially effective in the square beds that they are in this year.

We used 4 6-foot bamboo poles and then for each plant I ran some nylon string from the top and tied the other end of a long edging staple. The tomato plant is then tied loosely to the nylon string. In some cases the plants had gotten heavy enough that they may have the main stem tied to the bamboo pole and a branch or two tied to the string. I just kind of went with the gut since we didn't tie them up when they were small.

I have to say, I prefer the look of the tee pees over the cages. It's a pleasant sight outside my bedroom window!</description>
