Twelve years gardening, and this is the first time I’ve felt an earthworm really noticed me. He was a gorgeous little guy too, all deep pink and sleek and healthy. I had been pulling weed seedlings steadily and quietly for quite a while when his snout poked out to see what was going on. He emerged gracefully and swooped around for a while. Finally he curved up and around, looked right at me, decided I was no threat, and pulled back into his burrow. I feel truly blessed. Amd yes, I know he doesn’t have eyes. What a glorious day!
