I’ve harvested 92 heads of garlic. Not so many, considering that I had planted 125.
Some weeks ago I have cut the scapes and they were only 40.
So, not a very successful harvest, in comparison with the previous years.
Furthermore, some heads are small and others looks like shallots: the cloves are grown separated, and the stems and leaves have formed a clump. Weird.
Anyway, the harvest is done and is more than enough for my needs!
1, 2) harvested garlic
3, 4) some non perfectly formed heads

My garlic harvest wasn’t very good this year either. But at least we all have enough for some good cooking!

Nice harvest. If you wait too long to harvest your garlic, you don’t get much of a return on adding to their size and for each ‘leaf’ that has browned or started to turn brown…..you loose a layer of ‘paper’ over the head. This is frequently accompanied by cloves ‘separating’ from the head and shortens how long they will ‘keep’. I pick my garlic when two leaf tips have started to turn brown……maybe 3 leaf tips if I’m crunched for time.
