Lithops #1 is splitting!

I think it’s safe to say that my lithops is my favorite plant! I noticed the outer leaf split weirdly about a week ago. While most new lithops leaves seem to emerge through the top of the old leaves, mine decided to just bust through the side. (Unfortunately no pics of this.) After a few days, I got another surprise – there’s two sets of new leaves, not just one!
I have no clue why it produced two sets of leaves, or if I should separate them – are they separate plants? I feel like they probably share the taproot. Any ideas?
