The attached pictures were taken on what has possibly been the ONLY none rainy day in the month so far (last Saturday… We had a great big Garden Tidy, did some tree surgery and generally had a wonderful time in the outdoors)
I’m pretty pleased with the Sunflowers, and I have another burgeoning Artichoke. The Borage is beautiful, and now that some nematodes and Slug Pellets have gone down, all the leafy green stuff is looking decidedly less “nibbled”
We’ve been nibbling handfuls of Raspberries, and the Roses are beautiful (despite the rampant Black Spot on “Love and Peace”. I’m particularly pleased with the way the New Front has turned out, in all it’s flouncy pink frillyness… And goodness, does it smell good! the Combination of Sweet Peas, Dianthus, Lilies and Gertrude Jekyll makes for a very heady fragrance coming in the front door after work! For some reason, everything but the Asiatics and Stargazer are being tardy, this year… But then that only extends the flowering (and fragrance!)
Sadly, the Larkspur are now “ex” and the Mock orange has just finished, but the Trumpet Lilies will be blooming by the weekend, and I think the first Tomatoes (Black Seaman) have just set
And the home-grown Garlic has been gorgeous: Particularly impressed with the Elephant Garlic in pots… Lots of Bruschetta this week!
On an exciting note for another rainy day: The “Unseasonable Chilli Sow” experiment moves onto it’s next phase today: With almost 100% germination, and the first sets of true leaves showing, it’s time for a potting on session!

So these late sown chillis you mention – will they be for overwintering?

Yes, they will… If they escape the aphids! Chillies ARE perennials after all (albeit, sometimes short-lived). I’m hoping that they’ll get a good spurt of growth on, before the days get too short and then just keep them “ticking over”. Shan’t bother with too much pruning, and I think they’ll still be be too small to need the rootball trimming. But we’ll see how it goes
