I would like to know how long it will take the butterfly magnolia tree to flower after transplanting a 5 foot tree ? Will they flower the first fall after transplanting or will it take a few years ?

tough question! these things can depend on so many variables—how healthy and old the transplant was, fertilizer, soil, sun…

It is said that magnolias do not transplant well, however I have transplanted several with no problems, and with no interruption to the flowering. I do not know the particular magnolia you mention, but I understand it is one that flowers while quite young, and if it has been flowering before it was transplanted I seen no reason why it should not continue to do so.
