Greens, Brassicas and protein.....: P

The only work I did was to harvest and take some images.
The mosquitos make life in the garden on a cloudy, pleasant morning…..near impossible. So, I hurried through my tasks.

Got 3 more small heads of cauliflower. Two are tinted purple and one is white. They were not going to improve had I left them growing. So, harvested and processed.

Three ….heads of broccoli. Well, two plus something that doesn’t deserve to be called a ‘head’ but again….I could tell it wasn’t going to get bigger if I had left it so …….harvested and processed

A big handful of beet greens and the same of turnip greens.
I have never eaten turnip greens before but I’ve heard they’re good so I’m on it. I’m loving beets and greens since they’re doing double duty providing me with food. Had the beet greens for lunch. Will have the turnip greens for dinner after I look up a recipe for them

Pole beans ‘fortex’ are flowering and I see baby beans beans.
Tomato ‘sungold’, ‘celebrity’ and ‘amish paste’ have formed fruit but I think any harvests are a ways off.

I lost track of where I planted what of three or four varieties of sunflowers so I won’t name names until they bloom. But, in the meantime, one is setting some nice buds.

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve been watering a sunflower that was growing in my blackberry row-of-many-spaces and today, realized that it is/was an amaranth weed.

Another un-identified variety of daylily bloomed today and sorry to say, it’s another hyperion. That makes three big clumps of this variety that I have. I will dig two of them up next Spring and replace with some of the newer varieties I’ve purchased and am planning to purchase.

Got an image of my purple basil. It’s coming along sooooo slowly. I think it’s gotten too much water what with the rain and run-off from my watering the radish. I’ll have to plan better next year that is, try to remember the slight incline of each of my Vegetable Garden Beds and how water travels through it. I’ve only been doing this for 30 years or so. :rolls eyes:

Too much ‘protein’ in my brassicas in the form of cabbage moths, worms and eggs. Just once I’d like to grow/harvest brassicas….especially broccoli, without the presence of these creatures but I shudder to think of the drastic weather anomaly we would have to endure in order for that to happen. Thank you for enduring my rant.

1. ‘fortex’ beans
2. beet greens I had for lunch
3. turnip greens for dinner
4. slow growing ‘purple ruffles’ basil
5. sunflower bud
