Actually did some gardening today, spurred on by delight that I’m actually going to get some red corn this year and getting past the fear that every little thing I do is going to bring on a heart attack. At least I think I’m going to get red corn. I’m assuming that those bullet-shaped things growing on the cornstalks with red hair hanging out are going to be corn. It all started blooming last week, if that’s what it’s called. I only have 14 out of the 16 corn seedlings I put in the ground, but that seems to be okay. Just yesterday I was telling my friend Carole that I would be happy to get three cobs … one each for my husband and myself, and one to dry for seed … and it appears that so far, that’s what I’m going to get. Don’t know about you, but I’m excited!
The last photo is of the Lazy Housewife beans getting ready to bloom. I planted them in with the red corn and they are merrily winding their way up the stalks. Since I’ve not grown corn nor pole beans before, this section is a bed of excitement! (No movie premieres or Olympic medals for me … just corn and beans!)

Yes…..there is a kernel of corn at the other end of every one of those strands of corn silk.
Beans and corn? You do have much to be excited about! I’d love to see them growing together.

Those silks are incredible beautiful. Also, you are the first person I have ever seen actually use the corn stalks for pole beans… Cool.

Thanks Cherokee_Motley. Actually quite a few people on here have done the corn/pole beans/squash thing … ‘Three Sisters’. That’s where the idea is from. I got the pole bean seeds from Creme.
