A Perfect Week except for....

…..the first Japanese beetle of the season. I saw it on one of my dahlias. I’d rather they frequent the dahlia than my pole beans. Perfect dahlias won’t do much for the Winter larder.
The weather all week has been lovely though, despite all the rain in June, I felt I should water and it was appreciated.
Thinned the third radish planting located in a north bed.
i’ve decided to do away with my Weeds Garden and instead, initiate a Pests Garden to track the comings and goings of flea, cuke and Japanese beetles, slugs, tarnish bug, rabbit and that thing that makes one or two of my briars wilt each year. I have to go research that name but if you know it, please let me know.

1. poppy volunteer….the fluffiest one yet! must mark this to save seed.
2. monkshood….must stake next year
3. larkspur unknown variety
4. hosta unknown variety….large leaves, large plant spread but not tall, scapes approx 24". Yellowish (warm) green with darker green margins that fade as the season progresses. Please offer a suggestion if you know this variety. I have an image here: My unidentified hosta…….
5. just a plain ’ol impatiens but I dig the orange

So, this journal actually contains two questions. Sometimes I’m pushy.

Pretty poppy – I didn’t realise these were breadseed poppies. I have some volunteers like yours, in my garden just now flowering.

Until I got input here on folia…..I was calling mine ‘icelandic’. If you check my poppy plant page….you’ll see that mostly they grow in single form which is why I was so pleased to see this one.

could your hosta be fortuneii albopicta ? I was given a hosta matching your description, many years ago, by my late FIL. He didn’t know the name, but just this summer, I happened upon a hosta site and while browsing, I found one that matched it.. I now believe it to be fortuneii albopicta.
there is a pic of mine in the early spring (while it has the two tones of green) in my DBR garden
