‘Waverex’ petit peas are proving to be quite prolific from a very small, but densely planted patch. I usually regard garden peas as snacks, to be eaten fresh, straight from the pod. For a change tonight, I’ve actually shelled and cooked them together with carrots.

First tasting of ‘Anabel’ spuds too, all with butter and fresh mint sauce. Strawberries and ice cream to finish, though not my own. My attempts to grow them in containers have not been very successful, except for their first summer. They always suffer badly during the winter from being up in the air so to speak. When I have more beds built I can have one solely for strawberries – I think they will fare better at ground level. The 3 runners which rooted in the gravelly back patch are all fruiting without any care from me, except bird protection.

A really warm afternoon and I was champing at the bit to get on with things. Unfortunately my back had other ideas so not much achieved garden-wise today.

Tomorrow I need to harvest sweet peas and remove any seed pods.

Very jealous, will have to sit tight and cross my fingers as slugs are at everything in my garden. Hopefully my potatoes will survive and I’m optimistic about my tomatoes at the moment!
