This year, for the first time, I’ve been growing things from seed. how on earth do I get them out of the wee sections to plant them out?

I’m making a right pig’s ear of it

Depends on whether you are using polystyrene cells, the pliable or the rigid plastic sort. Polystyrene I poke the end of a pencil through bottom hole which pushes up the plug. A gentle squeeze of pliable plastic should loosen the plant plug, which can then be lifted out. This happens easily if the roots are well grown. If you are left with compost in the bottom of the cell and the contents is breaking up as you remove it, it is usually because it needs to grow more roots. Maybe you need to leave them a bit longer? And its not a stupid question – I’ve made a mess of it too and learnt from it.
