Well, received both of my orders of hostas, but as nothing in life goes off without a hitch, one order was below standards (mine), and one was beautiful but confused. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box to see a tiny fern peeking out! Especially since I didn’t order a fern. Further inspection produced the beautiful hostas that I had ordered PLUS 2 additional ones. In my order comments I had mentioned that I loved their hostas but that 3 I had ordered late last fall as dormant bare root had not made it thru the winter. So they sent me two of those and a ghost fern as replacements (I thought) Yippee! Very pleasant surprise.
Yesterday I went out to put my own labels on the plants, and when I was done I had one label left over! Multiple sessions of counting ensued and thought I had lost a hosta somehow overnight. :( After triple checking all the packing newspaper and looking all over for it, I sat there for probably 10 minutes looking back and forth at the label and this fern sitting in front of me, knowing they didn’t match. FINALLY (and I guess with age it takes awhile) figured out somebody got confused and sent me a ghost fern instead of ‘Grey Ghost’ hosta. Slight difference! And all this after sending them a glowing email commending their customer service! So I sent another email, still commending customer service, explaining that while the fern was quite nice, I would prefer my hosta. We’ll see what happens but hope they just send the hosta without me having to mail back the fern. After all, it wasn’t my fault!
The other order, the sad one, was from a major hosta retailer. Three of the hosta were passable, but one was very anemic looking, one appears to have some unusual streaking (watching out for hosta virus X, and two were just sad. Guess I won’t be ordering from there again. Plus they were more expensive, with no free shipping.
Ah, the joys of shopping online! Photo 1 is mini Alakazaam, which I now have 2 of — I ordered one to replace the winter-kill and they sent me a free one, so I planted them together.

You’re a right “Hostoholic” ! LOL! :-)) They all look really lovely! I’ve never grown them myself. I see a couple of really lovely looking big plants in big plastic pots as I accompany my wife to work everyday. Let’s hope you get your “Ghost” & get to keep the fern!

I would love to grow more hostas, but the deer devour them for breakfast. :-( Are you lucky enough not to have a deer problem, or have your solved it?
I think hosta have beautiful flowers when they are in bloom, sadly I have only seen that in other peoples gardens.

I always find buying plants online a bit of a gamble too. Invariably, they are either great or horrible – nothing much in between! Hope you get your ghost!

Know just how you feel! Perhaps you can revive those that are in not-so-great shape with your tender loving care. Fingers crossed!

Thank you all! Mount Tom was one I lost over the window, so I was happy to have it replace with a larger plant, and Linda Sue is a real looker in the pictures of a mature plant. Color me happy!
