The garden is full of sparkles and exclamation points on an absolutely splendid day. We get these days of perfection once in a while—not so often as to lose our appreciation for them. The allium shubertii is absolutely amazing, although difficult to capture due to its size—2 feet across!
Other events of note, happy, sad and mixed—I am the parent of a high school graduate, and my host daughter’s “real” parents arrive this afternoon.

With a 4 1/2 and a 6 year old in the house, I can’t image them graduating. Do me a favor…. tell me it was a really long time ago that your child was little, please. I don’t want them to grow up.

I am smitten with your Verbascum bombyciferum! I’ve never seen anything like it. I get at least one volunteer mullein in my garden each year but nothing like that.

What an amazing collection of alliums! I’m a bit perplexed yours are blooming now – most of mine are some weeks over. And the verbascum is other-worldly! :)

some alliums—“purple sensation”, “everest” — are long done but the gladiator, the christophii, and the shubertii seem to be very late bloomers, and especially late this year with our recoord coldand rainy june
