Today I harvested the first Strawberries of 2012 – then I knelt on them!!! ;-((
I had picked some berries & put them in a plastic beg which I moved around with me while picking the first ripe fruits as well as cutting off the runners. Everything was alright till I stepped out of the strawberry cage & set the bag on the ground while I moved further forward to cut some runners that had escaped me earlier & were coming out of the cage. Absorbed in this & moving backwards I didn’t realize, till it was too late, that I was getting ever closer to the bag. All of a sudden I felt something squash beneath my knee & I realized at once that I’d put my knee on the bag of Strawberries, crushing many of them! :‘(( That’s why in the photo there are so few!!! They were the few survivors!

No, I haven’t – not yet! tomorrow I’ll see if I can find some more “survivors” to go with them! These are from Gerry’s allotment but there are also a few on my own allotment, Plot 12A, that I could pick as well. If we get a few warm days they will ripen quickly as there are lots of fruits on the plants.
