Morning Glory Experimenting

I started 2 more morning glories just a few minutes ago. After seeing how well the ones on the front porch are vining up the posts, I was inspired to sow a couple more to see if I could vine them horizontally around the string lights in the back deck, I can just pot them into hanging baskets hung from the shepherds’ hooks and maybe disguise the misting system under some vines and foliage as well. I just hope the added weight doesn’t strain the hooks any more than they already are. I’ll try to find some smaller hanging baskets while I wait for them to germinate and get started in the seedling garden.

I’m also going to have to do some research into the shamrocks and peacock orchids I got (as freebies) from Burgess. They have absolutely no information about them on their web site. I have no idea what to expect from them yet, only that they germinated very quickly and are growing too fast to keep in the seedling flats and domes for too much longer.

I’m down to 11 gladioli now. I planted 5 of them around the corner by the garage to give that desolate little area some flare. With all the daylilies blooming up and down the street, the lack of any giant floral explosions in front of my house seems somewhat pitiful. I might consider planting 2-3 around the mailbox, but I haven’t completely settled on that idea yet. Maybe what I should really consider is another morning glory to vine up the mailbox post. Or maybe morning glories vining up the gutters. Or maybe vining up the gladioli! Oh, right, probably not up the last two. But, what I don’t plant in my yard are going to a couple of friends to liven up their flower beds. I’ll be happy to see all those too-tall behemoths gone from their little nursery planters!
