Just wondering if growing climbing-type vegetables (cucumbers, runner beans, peas etc.) in hanging pots and let gravity take over instead of having the plants climb up a trellis would work. Has anyone tried it?
ETA: in-ground is not an option for me, as I live in a condo and can only plant in containers.

I have grown dwarf snow peas in a hanging basket and I believe they did produce – not as prolifically as they would have in the ground, but still worthwhile. I also grew sweet peas and pansies in the basket, but if you have people around who can’t tell the difference between peas & sweet peas than skip the sweet peas as they are toxic/poisonous. I’m pretty sure that the idea was from Crops in Pots, which isn’t a book I’d recommend buying, but it’s worth checking out from the library.
