African Violets

Monday, 30 Apr 12 Rainy 11°C / 52°F

The dark maroon has had flushes of blooms all winter; the white brushed with blue (which does not show up well in the photo) has bloomed continuously since I bought it; the dark purple and the purple and white are just coming into bloom having been dormant all winter. The fifth is ailing and no sign of a flower bud.

I love these African Violets! I have some on the kitchen windowsill that have started to flower again. They have been there for several years now without being moved from there & they seem quite happy there as well!

Back in September/October my wife &I bought a couple of plants reduced in the supermarket where she works. There was no reason I could see that they should have been reduced but you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, do you? So we bought them & they flowered for a few months & then stopped. About a month ago I detected the first signs of this years flowers forming & now the very first flowers of this year are about to open! :-))
