Now that the trunks have gotten up to three feet high it was time to finally get the support wires and permanent posts in place. I visited the local CE garden last week and looked over their setups and asked questions. I have 2 second years and 1 first year. The second years are now at the point to create their permanent cordons. They are going to be spur pruned. The first year is barely two feet.

Since it’s a short run and won’t need a lot of support I’m just using some t-posts and 16 gauge solid wire. I ran the first wire at 36 inches high. Right now I have a top wire just in case they get to that point this year. I haven’t decided yet if I’m just going to have them all hang over one side or two. They are on my side yard which isn’t very big, maybe about 8 feet wide and I have them about 3 feet off the house which only gives me about 5 feet to the fence.

I have been hardening off the tomatoes and finally transplanted them. I am sooo excited to be getting veggies in the ground. I am going to harden off the peppers this week. The temperatures are going to dip back down to the low 70’s, but should bounce back up to the 80’s by the end of the week so they should be happy and ready to hit the ground then.

I need to start my onions a little later next year. Out of 16 I only have 2 that haven’t tried to bolt yet. The 14 that came out looked kind of link Very Large green onions and a little bulb starting. Hopefully the other two make it all the way. The garlic though is continuing to grow really well. I had to pull a few for some work on the drip line and even the smaller ones had bulbs about the size of a clove or two.

The potatoes in box 1 are just about needing to get hilled and I have excellent germination. Box 2 isn’t quite ready and I’m a little disappointed in the germination, but it’s about the same as the only box I had last year so combined with the great production of box 1 we should have a really good crop.
