Amaryllis AngloAmerican Hybrid seeds created from the pollen that sgardener sent me from her Hippeastrum Sydney on 31st March 2012. I used some of the pollen to fertilize one of the Amaryllis that was open at that moment & looked as if it were ready to receive pollen. Apparently I was right because one seedpod formed & was brought to term. I “harvested” the seed on Monday 16th April 2012.

Congratulations! It will be interesting to see the results! How long does an amaryllis take to reach blooming size?

Thanks, HollyBee, as you say it will be interesting indeed to see what comes of the seeds – once they are sown! As to your other question, the seeds need about 4 years before they become of a flowering size.
If you go to the thread on Hippeastrum from seed: http://myfolia.com/groups/57-hippeastrum/topics/6331-starting-from-seed/posts you will be able to read about our experience & also visit the blog pages I wrote on another gardening forum on growing Amaryllis from seed.
I have lots of seeds just harvested if you are interested. (From other Amaryllis that have set seed this year)

I hate to admit it but I’m not very good about looking after amaryllis (plants, that is!) I’m probably not the best person to plant those seeds and care for the plants. I’ll just watch your plants via this wonderful web! :)

Thanks, Tralamander, would you like some of these seeds? If you sow them right away then they should germinate quickly. Remember though, before you commit yourself to growing them, that they need 4 years to reach flowering size!
