Soil Test

Did a very depressing test of the soil in the back garden,
basically everything is low or very low Nitrate didn’t even get on the chart, phosphorus was low, and potassium again was very low. The one bit of good news was that the ph was Neutral. Given the clay texture it looks like we have just got sub soil. Thanks Wimpy.

Also in the rain today it showed just how bad the drainage is, anyone for swimming…

Oh well, at least it will keep us busy.

    Yes and No. We’ve been here now around 10 years but the house was a new build when we bought. In hindsight we should have asked the builders for proper top soil instead of the rubbish they gave us – we dug out the trench for our beach hedge at the front and pulled out barbed wire and road signs!
    If we ever get another new build we will be sure to ask them to break up the hard pan and give us decent soil. Been trying to improve slowly and over the years have added compost, mulch and even a consignment of worms or two to make things better.
