4 Women and an Allotment....

Saturday, 24 Mar 12 Overcast 16°C / 61°F

Sadly, the afore-mentioned beastie isn’t mine (I just don’t have time)!

The allotment in question is my sister, K’s: Bizarrely, me, my 2 sisters and my mum were all in the same city at the same time this weekend… So we had a “girly day”.

Now most people, I suspect, think of manicures and fragrant spa-type thingies on hearing that phrase… Rather than the reality of our version, which was shovelling 3 tonnes of well rotted s***t!

The day was utterly beautiful: Started off cool and foggy and needing to wear fleeces. Layers slowly got shed as things progressed and the muck got moved… Had a little picnic lunch with some boozy coffee and then finished off with some light weeding in 17C sunshine… Lots of catching up on girly gossip, and the company of the cheekiest robin ever! Potato trenches dug, Blackcurrants planted, pea-sticks up… Voila: A month’s work for my sister in the space of a day!

Aching in places I didn’t know existed before (being a Container Gardener, I don’t really do “digging” as such) but feeling very contented ATM!

And then I cam home to a gorgeous vase of the silkiest, darkest, choclateyiest (not sure that’s a word) Anenomes… And tomorrow I get to weed my raised bed!
