My vegetable garden is full again!

Mixed 5 bags of county compost into the soil. Fertilized with blood meal and green sand last weekend.

Planted out:

  • Marconi sweet red peppers (8)
  • Kaala bell peppers (8)
  • Super Thai chili peppers (3)
  • Pineapple ground cherries (4)
  • Bush basil (8)
  • Thai basil (8)

Potted up the remaining small Super Thai chili peppers (4) to be planted out later. [March 19th note: One of the chili peppers in the garden has already been hit by a cutworm, so it’s a good thing I have extras!]

Gave my extra tomatoes and basil to friends/neighbors: Sungold tomatoes (4), Sweet Million tomatoes (4), Bush basil (13).

My cherry tomatoes, planted out last weekend, have tripled in size since then!

And the first few peas are starting to ripen!!

Thanks! I have to be very careful with plant height and sun direction, to be sure that plants and the fence don’t shade things too much. This summer, when it’s too hot for most veggies to grow, I’m planning to break this large raised bed into a bunch of 4-foot-wide raised beds with wide paths in between to help solve this problem.

I was just thinking this weekend that if I were still in Boston (and my brother is) that I’d be planting peas! It’s amazing how much difference 1000 miles makes. :)

Looking great! My peas are up in PA too. A cutworm already??? I guess EVERYTHING is going to be early this year, including the pests! :)

@wenjomatic: Congrats on your peas! Yeah, I think it’s likely to be a bumper year for pests on the east coast since we didn’t get our usual killing frosts…
