prickly pear cactus

Sunday, 18 Mar 12 Cloudy 22°C / 72°F

just wanted to post a pic of the cactus which I got last year at the spring swap. I planted it in the new bed that I made under the south window of the sunroom, using cardboard with soil over top. The bed did great and I am looking forward to it doing even better this year
.
Keeping my fingers crossed that it will perk up.

They are amazing plants and grow natively here on our farm. I think the drought has killed off a few, but I’ve seen them rebound after just about every other disaster. Here the pads will root by just falling on the ground. I’ve got my fingers crossed, but I think yours will do just fine. You might lose the top pad, but a new plant will emerge from the roots so don’t give up on it.
