Tubers from Vreeken have arrived!
Wednesday, 18 Jan 12 Rainy 7°C / 45°F
I ordered some tubers from Vreeken because they have a nice assortment of ‘rare’ tubers which are all edible and make a nice change from the standard potatoe plantings. Some tubers I ordered where: Mashua Ken Aslett (Anu), Crosne, Jerusalem artichoke and the Pale-leaved woodland sunflower. Today I got an e-mail that I can pick them up from the store, so I went out right away!
All of them seem to be winter hardy and can be planted right away – except for the Mashua, this one needs to be potted up and placed in a light but cold place, frost free. So I potted up the six bulbs and put them in my shed. I’m planning to put them in between my field of potatoes later this year, they seem to reduce pests like nematodes and bacterial diseases and is also used in South America to protect the potatoes against diseases. What works for them hopefully also works for me!
