Yes the show goes on out in the tiered garden beds. In the last week, some of the darker cultivars have been strutting their stuff.
Hemerocallis ‘Bela Lugosi’ finally made an appearance with its rich deep purple blooms. It’s planted next to Hemerocallis ‘Jamaican Me Crazy’ and they make a terrific pair!
Hemerocallis ‘Velvet Eyes’ is showing off its rich red blooms with its stunning velvety black red eye. It pairs very well with Hemerocallis ‘Jamaican Midnight’ which has dark purple, almost black flowers.

They sure are Carms. These dark cultivars add that something special to the patch of Daylilies I have.

The colours really are so luxuriant. Bet you’re out there, every morning, seeing who is making an appearance for the day.

Orientalily, you’re spot on! It’s the first thing I do in the morning, lol, even before I have my morning cuppa!
Rainymountain, I have to admit ‘Velvet Eyes’ is a particular favourite of mine.
Tralamander, the darker cultivars are the perfect foil for those rather flashy, brighter blooms.

Hi Amarylis. We have a fantastic Daylily Nursery here in Queensland and Scott the owner has the most magnificent range! While the first Daylilies I ordered were very colourful and quite stunning, I became drawn to a few of the darker cultivars last year and I’ve been over the moon with the blooms.

Yes I have to agree with both of you, TolCath and Nickyn. ‘Jamaican Midnight’ does indeed have a velvety look to it and takes on slightly different hues as the light changes from early morning to dusk. Nickyn, I’m a big fan of these glorious darker colours now. They really are gorgeous.

Beautiful! I have ‘Bela Lugosi’ too and it’s one of my favorites. The combo with ‘Jamaican Me Crazy’ is perfect!

SneIrish, ‘Bela Lugosi’ was one of the first I ever bought, only two years ago now, and I’ve loved it ever since. It certainly does make a great pairing with ‘Jamaican Me Crazy’. I can’t wait for both of them to mature more and become larger clumps with many more blooms. I think they will make a fantastic looking patch of colour.
