I’ve been procrastinating a bit on the weeding but had some dedicated time to devote to it today. It’s sprinkling at the moment so that’s a convenient excuse to take a break for dinner.
So far, the area where the garlic used to live is done, the onions are done, strawberries are pretty well done, herb bed is done and the poor asparagus bed is finally able to breathe.
Earlier I also finished up the latest layer to tomato weave which was sorely needed – the tomatoes are trying their best to escape but I keep corralling them as best I can. The plants are loaded with fruit and flowers.
We had 1" of rain in the rain gauge from yesterday so no watering today. I’m not sure how much rain is forecast for today but I think it’s safe to say I won’t be watering in the near future.
The strawberries are doing well despite all the weeds – no fruit but that could be either birds or all the weeds I just removed. They are sending out runners and still alive which is a definite plus.
There’s more weeding in the near future but for now, I’m “resting” and doing laundry while waiting for dinner. Earlier I also ordered Seed to Seed from Amazon so I can figure out what I’m doing for seed saving later. Hard to believe we’re one week into August already. I have nearly four pounds of tomatoes in the freezer waiting to process into sauce and the same in cukes in the fridge for pickles. Things are looking great in the garden and before I know it we will be knee deep in canning.

@laurieann – I was being a bit lazy and meant Florida weave (for my tomatoes) which is how I’m supporting my plants. Sorry for the confusion!
@bcgarden2010 – Well it does look considerably more beautiful now that I’ve removed some weeds! I was actually thinking of an old song (Ricky Nelson I think) called Garden Party when I titled my journal. Funny what gets stuck in your head as you garden! ;-D
