I’m a contented camper this morning. I got to sleep in an hour (always a bonus!), had leisurely coffee, the sun is coming out, and I finally caught sight of the Pileated woodpecker that had been calling all morning. I’ve never seen a Pileated around here before, and he surprised me while I was picking beans. Extremely cool!
I was also surprised to see how abundantly the Dragon Tongue beans produced! And they’re so cool looking! They were one of my experiments for this year, and they’ve just been the most satisfying veg so far (well, except for the cucumbers, which are, hands down, my favorite). I’ve been looking up how to cook them, and it sounds like a simple blanch and vinaigrette is the thing. There are several pods still doing their thing, and I’m going to leave a few to see if I can get dried beans from them … either for storing or for planting next spring. They’re definitely something I’ll want to keep growing!
Also had some more cucumbers waiting for me this morning. They’ll be gone around lunchtime. I don’t know why I fuss over the tomatoes so much, when it’s the cucumbers I adore. And they adore me right back. My five plants are strong, pest free, and are giving me many tasty gifts!
Speaking of the tomatoes, I found a few more fruit developing, so that’s nifty. Another surprise! And I also found one more pumpkin than was previously counted. So … I’m cautiously optimistic about the overall harvest from my small set up.
