The thing that brought it all together really was the addition of the black accents used consistently throughout the landscape. It ties all the craziness down and makes sense of it. ( I have always had the same problem you mentioned) I would guess that any neutral like white, cream, grey, rust brown….used the same way as the black might unify the same way
