Just my favorite flowers ever! Even in partial sun this one is doing wonderful, a huge bloom.
Went out to check on the garden before we leave for a couple days. It’s our oldest’s, Kevin, 7th birthday and we are going camping at the lake until Sunday. First thing I noticed was one of my Supersteak tomatoes fell over, half on the ground. I’m wishing I hadn’t wasted my money on those darn two hoop cages…
I spent probably an hour just on the tomatoes, resupporting and pruning suckers mercilessly. The yellow pear and orange wellington are monsterous. I was particularly harsh with the pear, and if I knew how to top it I would….horrible I know but I have another that is taking off so I’m not worried about a shortage of yellow pear tomatoes. I’m not planning on preserving any of them anyway, that’s what the other 13 plants are for.
I’ve been keeping out of the onions pretty well, and with the rain we’ve had the last week they really seem to be filling out. Obviously next year I will double the amount to plant as we use onions daily and what I’ve got out there right now would probably make it to Thanksgiving if we were stingy. There will also be more potatoes. The way I’ve been robbing I should have planted two more rows. Believe it or not I’m already planning next years layout…crazy I know :)
Picked a majority of the Dragon carrots, a few of the Chantenay and Tendersweet. I still have a whole bed of Scarlet Nantes. I may throw a few bags in the freezer after blanching them for stews or to make candied carrots later on. There’s a lot more there than I realized.
The Burpee Hybrid II cucumber is doing great, I’m growing all my cukes on a trellis this year which seems to be working out great, I just have to rearrange them sometimes when the wind gets to them. I don’t think the weight on the trellis I built will be too much for it to handle. The other two varieties I planted, Muncher and Marketmore are doing good too, just not growing as fast as the burpee. But they all have mini cukes on the vines. The cantelope is setting fruit too, and I didn’t take a good look at the other melons other than training them up their trellises to notice any more mini melons. My Karina peas are done, I’m archiving them today. That’ll be more room for the banana melons to grow :) I need to harvest the rest of the beets but I’ll wait until we get back to give them a couple more days to grow. There should be enough there for another pint of pickled beets yum! Oh that reminds me the other planting of beets is sprouting…
I should be out there right now weeding out some rows since the rain softened up the soil really good. But there’s more laundry to fold and lists to double check before we leave. For sure they aren’t going anywhere!

No I don’t I bought it a couple years ago. I might check at the nursery to see if I can find it again.
