I don’t claim to have the most amazing wisteria display — my friend Gerda in North Van does — but my display gets better and better every year!
I created an overhead framework on the deck last year and trained the wisteria to grow along it so we would get more shade on the deck. I pruned it back in August and in January as I have been doing for the past 4 years. The number of flower panicles was just unbelievable this year. The weather was too cool and wet this spring to be sitting outside in May so when it started to bloom I just stood outside amongst the flowers and breathed in the perfume. Mmmmmmm!
I wish I could take better photographs—they just don’t do it justice.
The photos were taken June 4.
The last photo is looking up at the deck from the backyard.
Sadly they are finished now.
